Description :Uncommon local species. Length 48cm. Eats aquatic vegetation, frogs, seeds, molluscs and small birds.
Typical Habitat :Freash water swamps and marshy paddocks.
Distribution :Common to northern and eastern Australia and south western W.A. Subspecies bellus is endemic, only recorded in Australia.
Migration :Resident / breeding at Horseshoe Bay Lagoon, Magnetic Island. Most common during the wet season. Main breeding season is all year and variable.
