Description : | Common. Body 117mm ; Tail 113mm ; Weight 42g : Fur clay-brown to brown. They lose the skin of their tails easily and withers away, leaving a stump that doesn't regrow. Nocturnal. Eats seeds, vegetation, fungi and insects. Litter size of 1to 4. |
Typical Habitat : | Open forest to woodland with an understorey of spinifex or tropical grass, occasionally monsoon forest patches and dry vine thickets. Always associated with rocky outcrops, mainly sandstone formations. Doesn't burrow, uses rock cover for nest sites. |
Distribution : | Has separate populations. Kimberley area W.A. and Top End, N.T. The other group is from Cooktown to Ayr. |
