Description :Body 55cm. Tail 82cm. Grey to black with cream, yellow bands and rows of spots, black bands across chin. Large arboral goanna, major predator of nesting birds, also eats insects, reptiles, mammals and carrion.
Typical Habitat :Lays 6-12 eggs in a hole dug into a termite nest, the termites seal up the hole, while the young can burrow out of the nest, the female returns after 6-8 weeks to free the hatchlings. Woodland, open and closed forest.
Distribution :Coast and ranges of eastern Australia.
