Description :Common local species. Length 16cm. Up to 4 eggs are laid in a cup shaped ground nest near tussock or shrub. Makes small saucer shaped feeding patches in forest litter. Eats seeds and insects.
Typical Habitat :Moist grassland
Distribution :Locally common to the north and east coast. Turnix maculosa melanota is endemic, only recorded in Australia.
Migration :Resident / breeding. Found breeding locally in March 1985. Main breeding season, most of the year, variable.
