Description :Common. Body 165mm; Tail 112mm; Weight 160g. Dark grey-brown colour. Native rat, nocturnal, omnivorous. Sugar cane pest, gnaws the cane at ground level, exposing the sap to bacteria that reduces the sugar content. Average size of it's litter is six.
Typical Habitat :Tropical grasslands, open forest and grassy patches within rainforest. Burrows are dug into moist soil, large colonies can be formed.
Distribution :Cape York to central Queensland.
