Description : | Rare. Body 118mm ; Tail 115mm ; Weight 55g ; Fur speckled chestnut above. Nocturnal. Eats seeds, leaves, fungi and insects. Litter size is from 1 to 5. Nest may be grass above ground or part of a burrow complex. |
Typical Habitat : | Open woodland with grassy understory. Populations increase after intense wildfires, but when the vegetation ages, it is displaced by the Swamp Rat. It changes habitat use and diet when the Swamp Rat has been experimentally removed. |
