Description : | Common local species. Length 50cm. Sharp-billed diving bird, with a duration of 30 seconds. Makes barking and rattling sounds. Eats only live food, fish, tadpoles, freshwater crayfish and other aquitic invertebrates. |
Typical Habitat : | Fresh/salt water, lakes, lagoons, estuaries and bays. |
Distribution : | Eastern Australia and western coast. |
Migration : | Resident / breeding. Ross River Dam and Serpentine Lagoon, occasionally visits the Town Common. Main breeding season, November to January. |
