Bird Family :"Pelicans"
 Pelecanidae
Description :Common local species. Numbers rise when inland wetlands dry up. Length 180cm. Swims in flocks. Mixed flocks of Pelicans and Little Black Cormorants when feeding. Makes a grunting noise. Soars in thermal drafts and flies in lines or ' V ' s.
Typical Habitat :Open fresh and salt water. Pelicans are affected by pesticides concentrated in the fish that they eat, which results in eggshell thinning and loss of eggs during breeding.
Distribution :Common Australia wide.
Migration :Resident / non breeding. Nomadic. Usually seen resting by Many Peaks dam, foreshores and Townsville Dump. Main breeding season, is variable.
