Description :Common. Body 80cm ; Tail 77cm ; Weight 16-27kg ; Body colour is yellowish-brown to orange-buff. Nocturnal. Lives in groups of up to 10 and can form larger feeding groups. Eats most native grasses and digs up the roots of ribbon grass.
Typical Habitat :Dry open forest with low brush understory, margins of wetlands, grasslands, grazing paddocks and sugar cane crops [pest]. Preferred habitat is along rivers and streams.
Distribution :Northern Australia. In Queensland, from the N.T. border around the coast to Rockhampton.
