Description :Common. Body length 300mm; tail 270mm; weight 700g. Home range is 2-10 hectares, larger in estuaries than in fresh water. Eats mainly yabbies, mussels and fish, known to take poultry, frogs and snails.
Typical Habitat :Rivers,estuaries,mangroves and lakes. Builds its nest at the end of a complex burrow in creek banks or sometimes in logs.
Distribution :All the eastern states, Top End of NT, south east S.A. and northern W.A. plus a small pocket in the south west of W.A.
