Description :Common local species. Length 25cm. Feeds on reef flats at low tide. Eats molluscs, crustaceans and insects. Roost on rocks and in mangroves at high tide. Call is a fluty ' troo-eet ' , ' weet-eet '.
Typical Habitat :Estuaries, mangroves, rocky coast and reefs.
Distribution :Common to coastal areas.
Migration :Summer migrant to Australia. Migrates to China, Taiwan and Australasia to breed. Juveniles and some adults may over-winter here.
