Description : | Common local species. Length 85cm. Wingspan 220cm. Large sea-eagle. Eats fish, small birds and animals, carrion, sluggish sea-snakes. Will try to take an Osprey's catch. Call is a deep goose-like honking or cackling. Australia's only Haliaeetus species. |
Typical Habitat : | Rivers, lakes, coastal seas and islands. |
Distribution : | Moderately common around the coastline and eastern Australia. |
Migration : | Resident / breeding. More widely spaced along the coast than the Osprey. Main breeding season, May to September. |
