Description : | Common local species. Length 140cm. Female smaller. Has a dancing display of leaps, bows, high steps and loud trumpeting calls. Eats insects, small animals and plants, prefered food is Bulkuru Sedge. |

Distribution : | Common to uncommon to northern and eastern Australia. Endemic, only recorded in Australia. |
Migration : | Resident / nomadic / breeding (numbers declining). Main breeding season, September to May. Nest are made of grass, sticks and leaves, forming a raised mound, above water or on land, with up to 3 eggs. |
