Description :Uncommon local species. Length 38cm. Male is slightly smaller. Eats small rodents (House Mouse). Hunts from perches in open woodland or by hovering over tall grass. Soars with elevated wings. Call is a harsh ' kar ' and a quiet ' chep '.
Typical Habitat :Grassland and woodland fringes. Builds small stick nest in tree canopies.
Distribution :Common Australia wide. Endemic, recorded only in Australia.
Migration :Resident / breeding. Main breeding season, April to November, variable.
