Description : | Common local species. Length 15cm. Common beach bird mainly in quieter areas. Hundreds can be seen on salt flats south of Ross River in the dry season. Call is a sharp ' twink'. Runs in short spurts. |
Typical Habitat : | Sandy beaches, salt flats, coastal and inland. |
Distribution : | Moderately common Australia wide. Breeding endemic, recorded outside Australia in certain seasons. |
Migration : | Migratory / resident / breeds on beaches, mainly at Balgal, Crystal Creek and Magnetic Island. Main breeding season, September to January, variable. |
