 Burhinidae
Description :Common local species. Length. 55cm. Most active and vocal at night. Call is a mournful, wailing ' wee loo '. Freezes to escape attention. Eats insects.
Typical Habitat :Open woodland sometimes near beaches.
Distribution :Uncommon to N.T., QLD., N.S.W., northern VIC. and western and northern W.A. Becoming rare in settled southern areas.
Migration :Resident / breeding mainly on Magnetic Island. Main breeding season, August to February, variable.
