Description : | Common local species. Length 70cm. Builds a large egg incubating mound made of rotting vegetation and sand. The male regulates the heat generated by the rotting vegetation by adding or subtracting leaves or sand. |
Typical Habitat : | Rainforest, mangroves, vine thickets. |
Distribution : | Common in coastal areas from Cape York to Woolongong. Endemic, only recorded in Australia. |
Migration : | Resident / breeding at Oonooba, Ross River, Shelly Beach, Paluma and Mt. Elliot. Main breeding season, August to February. |
