 Megapodiidae
Description :Common local species. Length 70cm. Builds a large egg incubating mound made of rotting vegetation and sand. The male regulates the heat generated by the rotting vegetation by adding or subtracting leaves or sand.
Typical Habitat :Rainforest, mangroves, vine thickets.
Distribution :Common in coastal areas from Cape York to Woolongong. Endemic, only recorded in Australia.
Migration :Resident / breeding at Oonooba, Ross River, Shelly Beach, Paluma and Mt. Elliot. Main breeding season, August to February.
