Description : | Common local species. Length 75cm. Solitary. Roosts in trees and mangroves. Eats insects, crustaceans, reptiles and worms. Call is drawn out croaks. |
Typical Habitat : | Mangroves, pasture, tidal flats, gardens and rubbish dumps. |
Distribution : | Common Australia wide, except the arid interior. |
Migration : | Resident / breeds in a large colony on the south bank of Ross River, seen at Many Peaks Range, Magnetic Island and is a common garden bird. Main breeding season, Feburary to May and August to December, variable. |
