Description : | Common. Largest of the flying foxes. Head and body length 260mm; wingspan more than 1meter; forearm 190mm; weight 800g. Very social and roosts in camps. The camps become very noisy between February - April when mating occurs. |
Typical Habitat : | Mangroves, paperbark swamps and rainforest. Preferred food are the blossoms of eucalypts, melaleucas,turpentines and grevilleas, will also eat introduced fruits particularly mangoes. Groups travel up to 50km to feed on such trees. |
