Description : | Uncommon local species. Length 105cm. Wingspan 230cm. Australia's largest bird of prey and only Aquila species. Eats mainly carrion but will take small animals, reptiles and birds using diving attacks or rapid pursuit. Call is feeble yelps and squeals. |
Typical Habitat : | Widespread, except closed forest. |
Distribution : | Common Australia wide, except arid central W.A. The Tasmanian Aquila audax fleayi is endemic, recorded only in Australia and also endangered. |
Migration : | Resident / breeding. Main breeding season, January to February and May to June. |
