A Permanent Mark: the impact of tattoo culture on contemporary art is a ground breaking exhibition that will explore and reconcile how two distinct industries - tattooing and contemporary art - are becoming increasingly interconnected. Tattoos and body art are central to many ancient cultures and civilisations, but it is the more recent popularisation and acceptance of tattoos in Western culture that has resulted in the artform permeating into the contemporary art sphere. A Permanent Mark: the impact of tattoo culture on contemporary art will display works by significant local, national and international tattoo and contemporary artists that evidence the crossover of styles, technology and techniques, themes and iconography.

A Permanent Mark: the impact of tattoo culture on contemporary art is supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland
Research towards A Permanent Mark: the impact of tattoo culture on contemporary art has been supported through the Darling Travel Grants | Domestic, administered by the Gordon Darling Foundation

Perc Tucker Regional Gallery welcomes you to The Vault Shop - Townsville’s most exciting retail space for boutique arts and craft.
Each month The Vault Shop will feature an exhibition of small works for sale by north Queensland artists.

Liz Gallie is an artist living in Mission Beach who is best known for her unique handmade jewellery made from local lawyer cane and precious metals.

Initially working with basket weaving before evolving her practice into jewellery making, Liz Gallie has exhibited alongside established and emerging artists including Ben Trupperbaumer, Ray Crooke, Siri Omberg, Michael Pugh, Deanna Conti, Diana Crooke and Susan Kirk.

In more recent years she has also turned her artistic focus to environmental pursuits through photography and graphics, with a special concern for the endangered cassowary. This has led Liz to divide her time between creating her unique jewellery and channelling her talents to deliver a powerful conservation message.

An exhibition of miniature and small paintings by members of the Townsville Watercolour Group

Exhibition dates:
23 July – 20 August 2015
In The Showcase, Perc Tucker Regional Gallery

Miniatures At Large showcases a vibrant collection of miniature and small paintings of the Townsville city and region.

Subjects have been gleaned from excursions out and about the city and its local environs. Artists worked to portray something of the landscape, cityscape, beauty and spirit of Townsville.

Recent workshops conducted by well-known Australian watercolourist Malcolm Carver have given participants new tools and confidence to tackle a wide variety of subjects and scenes; hence the amazing variety of subjects from the Townsville city centre to the surrounding areas of Ross Creek, Ross River, Castle Hill, Magnetic Island and Riverway. Members have also chosen to showcase a selection of Townsville’s unique local flora and fauna.

Country & Western: landscape re-imagined 1988-2013 is a
comprehensive landscape exhibition that aims to bring into focus
the contrasting insights and cultural imperatives, both Indigenous
(country) and non-Indigenous (western), that have given shape and substance to our evolving attitudes and perceptions of the national landscape over the past 25 years.

In the post bi-centennial landscape, artists have referenced the
past, the future and the ever present, to identify and give a sense of place to the space they occupy. The experience can be grounded in the physical reality of a site, along with its deep, often-elusive spiritual associations. Yet, the idea of the bush as hostile and bewildering lingers on.
