Country & Western: landscape re-imagined 1988-2013 is a
comprehensive landscape exhibition that aims to bring into focus
the contrasting insights and cultural imperatives, both Indigenous
(country) and non-Indigenous (western), that have given shape and substance to our evolving attitudes and perceptions of the national landscape over the past 25 years.

In the post bi-centennial landscape, artists have referenced the
past, the future and the ever present, to identify and give a sense of place to the space they occupy. The experience can be grounded in the physical reality of a site, along with its deep, often-elusive spiritual associations. Yet, the idea of the bush as hostile and bewildering lingers on.

This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body.

ArtNOW is an exhibition of works by senior students from the North Queensland region, delivered as part of Gallery Services’ Creative Classrooms Program. This annual exhibition is the result of ongoing collaboration between Gallery Services and secondary schools across the north.

The Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Visual Art recognises and promotes excellence in senior visual art education throughout state and non-state schools in Queensland. Since 1990, the program has helped raise community awareness of the degree of sophistication in concepts, diversity of technical competence, and the high standard of visual art education in Queensland secondary schools.

A collective exhibition by Visual Arts teachers from the Townsville region.

Exhibition dates: 1 September - 4 October 2015

To be officially opened by:
Christina Papadimitriou
President QATA
10am Saturday 12 September 2015

Visual Art teachers from across the Townsville region have created an artwork on a square panel in their chosen medium. These works are then combined with other participating teachers’ panels to ‘link’ the artworks together symbolising the teachers’ interconnectedness and diversity.

This is the third exhibition by the Townsville region’s art educators and has continued the vision of providing the Visual Arts teachers of Townsville the opportunity to showcase their artistic skills. The eclectic nature of the exhibition reflects the broad range of visual art skills, practices and aesthetics of each artist.
