The biennial Percival Portrait Painting Prize is North Queensland’s own portrait competition and is held at Perc Tucker Regional Gallery.

Having begun in 2007, The Percivals is an open competition for artists. While showcasing the outstanding and innovative work currently being produced by Australian artists, the competition has also given many emerging artists an opportunity to engage with portraiture and share their expressions of themselves and those close to them. Across the years participating artists have presented varied styles and approaches to the contemporary portrait - from abstracted images and cool conceptualism to smooth realism and the energetic aura of thick, impasto oils executed with broad brush and palette knife.

More information can be found on the Percival Portrait Painting Prize 2016 page.

Join Melbourne City Ballet as they bring the classical ballet version of William Shakespeare’s arguably most
popular work “Romeo & Juliet” to life at Riverway Arts Centre on Thursday 14 July. Choreographed by Artistic Director Michael
Pappalardo, William Shakespeare’s classic story explores the chance meeting of two young lovers, the son
and daughter of two rival families, who quickly develop a forbidden love that could cost them their lives.
Featuring Principal Artists Yuiko Masukawa and Brendan Bradshaw, Romeo & Juliet is Melbourne City
Ballet’s most raw production and an event not to be missed.

HEB is a major retrospective of the works of acclaimed political cartoonist Bob Hebden. A Townsville local, HEB created over 4,000 cartoons during his lifetime, many of which were published in the Townsville Advertiser, and Townsville Sun for a period spanning four decades. HEB's cartoons regularly delighted readers (an occasionally sparked controversy), as he turned his undoubted talent as a draughtsman and acerbic humour to local and national issues and events, identities and sporting teams. This exhibition is made possible thanks to the generosity of HEB's family, who have kindly loaned his original illustrations and paintings.
